1Entebbe/Kampala → Jinja
Our driver picks you up in Entebbe or Kampala in the morning. Drive to Jinja, about 80 km (the earlier you leave in the morning the less traffic jam in Kampala) and go straight to your accommodation at Kingfisher Lodge. Enjoy a boatride to the source of the Nile, see many birds and if you are lucky also lizards, like the big monitor lizard.

2Jinja → Mbale
Drive to the East through the town Mbale up to the SALEM Eco Lodge about 10 km northeast of Mbale. In the afternoon enjoy a walk into the nearby area, see wells where people collect their water, small shops, banana plantations etc.

In the morning you can choose to take the bike to reach the Kakoro Rockpaintings (about 13 km) or our company transport. See the rockpaintings in the midth of a rocky landscape and learn more about the culture of the ethnic group of the Bagwere. In the afternoon get to know the SALEM project with its children village, nursers training school, hospital, tree planting project etc.

Enjoy the landscape of the mountainous area of Sipi including the famous Sipi waterfalls. You can choose between different walks, from easy up to sporty. You can see one or all three waterfalls. After returning for lunch you learn all about coffee: from picking the red coffee bean from the plant, fermenting, shelling, grinding and roasting. At the end you will enjoy a wonderful coffee.

Get to know how people live, how they treat themselves traditionally and currently. In the morning you can go out to the community together with the SALEM socialworker to visit a family who is either supported already or is in need for support. Thereafter pass by a primary school and see how students learn in fully packed classrooms but also how projects of Tukolere Wamu helped already the school to do better. If you like we can organize a visit to the traditional healer in the afternoon and/or a village drama group organized by the SALEM Community Health workers. Another option is to become active yourself and join any activity taking place in SALEM (children activity in the Children´s Home, bead-making, agriculture and permaculture, energy saving stove, …)
In SALEM a day or more can be extended on request.

Leave early in the morning for Kampala. Stopover at Ssezibwe Falls near Mukono. During a walk you learn about the culture of the ethnic group of the Baganda and also the local fabrication of Barkcloth, the first cloth made out of a local tree.

Spend the day on Lake Victoria, where you have the chance to see the shoe bill storks in the swamps of the lake.

During the days in the SALEM Eco Lodge the activities you can join are not specifically arranged for tourists, but part of the daily routine in SALEM. Therefore, the days may change according to the activities desired. Here days can be added, in case of interest, just contact us.

The tours are private, tailored to your group of up to seven people without any additional guests. For larger groups, we can arrange an extra car upon request.
